She has covered sports in several of the biggest publications around the world. The journalist spent more than a decade covering various sports on behalf of The Washington Post, including football, tennis, and basketball. Nichols was a reporter for nine years with ESPN which was where she earned 2 Emmy Awards. In addition, Nichols was an assistant journalist on the Monday Night Football broadcasts. Her next assignment was CNN and Turner Sports. Unguarded was a program that she co-produced and hosted was telecast each week on CNN International. More than a billion people watched the show worldwide. At the time, Nichols reported on TNT's NBA broadcasts which included playoffs, regular season, and All-Star broadcast teams. Also, she has worked at TBS in the capacity of a journalist for baseball and golf coverage. CBS broadcasted the Final Four. Over the course of 42 years of the award, this was the first time that women were one of the nominees.
